Not a bit of painting in class last night. Discussion of the history of art education, specifically painting and the academies. Greek, Medieval, Baroque, Rennaisance, French, Bauhaus to present. Then a slide show on Bauhaus. I did get approval on my still life composition late in the class period. I am confident now that I have the beginnings of an interesting painting and can proceed. I was advised to keep the composition simple and to stay in that happy area between abstract expression and figurative. Out of this advice came some nice artspeak from professor Clayton that I just may incorporate into my all important artist statement.
